Marysville invites residents to weigh in on draft Housing Action Plan at Oct. 10 open house

The City will host an open house on its draft Housing Action Plan on Oct. 10, 2023, at Marysville Civic Center, with the presentation and Q&A also available online 1.

What the records say

The City of Marysville has scheduled an open house so residents can share thoughts, concerns, and priorities on the draft Housing Action Plan (HAP), a document meant to guide how the city plans for housing. It runs Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 4:30 to 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers on the 2nd floor of Marysville Civic Center, 501 Delta Avenue 1.

The event is in person, but a brief presentation from approximately 5:00 to 5:15 PM will also be available on Zoom, followed immediately by a question-and-answer session; only that portion is available online 1. The city notes that a quorum of City Council members and/or Planning Commissioners may attend, a notice it says is provided to comply with the state Open Public Meetings Act 1.

According to the city, the draft HAP aims to expand housing options, create workforce housing for local employees, and stabilize households so existing residents can remain in their homes. It will play a role in updating the Housing Element of the city's Comprehensive Plan and provide context for the Land Use Element 1. Residents who cannot attend can take an online survey and review the initial draft on the city's website; the city says the survey will help refine priorities and recommendations and identify gaps in the proposal 1. Questions can go to Principal Planner Angela Gemmer by email or at 360.363.8240 1.

Why it matters

The HAP's data and action items are meant to supply the direction and strategies for meeting the city's housing needs, and they will feed into the Comprehensive Plan Housing Element update — so priorities residents raise now can shape that direction 1. The open house and survey are the city's stated channels for that input 1.

What changed / what's next

  • The city published notice of an open house on its draft Housing Action Plan, scheduled for October 10, 2023, and invited public input through an online survey 1.
  • The notice sets no comment deadline; the city says the survey will help refine the HAP's priorities and recommendations before the plan informs the Comprehensive Plan Housing Element update, so check the city's Housing Action Plan webpage for updates 1.
